about ‘the toilet of venus’ (rokeby venus)

One of Velázquez's most famous and admired paintings, The Toilet of Venus (also known as the Rokeby Venus, Venus at her toilet, or Venus Del Espejo) depicts the goddess of love admiring herself in her bedchamber with the help of her son Cupid, who props up a mirror for her divine contemplation.

about carla tofano

Born, raised and educated in Venezuela to a modern family, with progressive thinking and humanist tendencies, Carla is the daughter of Tecla Tofano, a renowned visual artist and tireless feminist-activist, and Alfredo Chacón, a poet with an incredibly prolific career and significant work in the area of cultural management.

After graduating as a social communicator from the Universidad Central de Venezuela, she was able to pursue a journalistic career that enabled her to become a prominent voice in cultural journalism covering, in particular, the arts, shows and trends.

Her professional CV includes several radio programmes (Cosmobabies, En el Aire, Ciudad Glam) and a variety of opinion columns (Metralla Rosa, Mujeres Primero, Compro Luego Existo). She was a television producer for national (“RCTV“) and panregional (“E! Entertainment Television” for Latin America) channels, and she had more than one interesting incursion on prime-time TV shows (Fama, Sudor y Lágrimas).

After moving to the UK a little over 10 years ago, her career took a radical turn. While learning English and rediscovering anonymity in the extraordinary city of London, she succeeded in establishing herself as one of the city’s most sought-after artist’s models, giving a renewed meaning to her vocation as a communicator.

Today, from London to the rest of the world, once more using the power of her words, she is co-producing a reinvention of her first ever opinion column: Metralla Rosa!
